SUCCESS STORY: NEW MACHINE FOR DEEP BLISTER PACKS – PVC OR PET

Our client InBiomed - Ingeniería Biomédica - challenged us with a special project: they needed to manufacture blister packs up to 30 mm deep to package their products, including a small glass bottle.

We are pleased to share another great success story that shows how much positive it is for us to work on projects with dedicated, committed and excellence-oriented people.

This time, our client InBiomed contacted us with the need to manufacture blister packs up to 30 mm deep. Their flagship product, intended for tissue regeneration and support, required a design that would guarantee the safety and stability of the bottle (primary packaging) within the blister pack (secondary packaging).

The process began with close collaboration between our engineering team and InBiomed’s technical staff. Together we defined the specific details of their requirements and developed a custom design that would adapt to two different types of bottles. This collaborative process ensured that the machine we were developing accurately met our client’s expectations.

One of the key challenges of this project was the choice of thermoforming material, which had to be PET rather than the industry standard, PVC and Aclar multi-laminate. This involved extensive testing to adjust forming temperatures, sealing pressures and lacquers of the lid material among other details. In some cases, we also had to adapt the “Assisted Forming” tools to achieve the desired result. During this process, we carefully assessed the minimum areas required to ensure blister airtightness, complying with applicable pharmacopoeial regulations.

Dedication to this project led us to further professionalise in the handling of different materials and, together with InBiomed, we learned valuable insights to optimise the supply of base and lid materials. This ensured the obtaining of a final product with the quality, definition, transparency and mechanical safety required for its application.

Finally, we achieved the successful installation and commissioning of the machine at the client’s plant. Our technicians came back very glad with the technical level and quick action of the InBiomed team to solve any emerging needs. This project was not only a development/technical success but also an enriching collaborative experience.
